Your guide

    Official resources

Immediate danger? Call 911 for an emergency. Do not enter private property, confront workers or obstruct vehicles to obtain evidence. The MNR tips line is not an emergency service.
    Before you document anything

Stay safe. Stay on land where you're allowed.

Photographs and reports are useful only when gathered safely and lawfully. You do not need to approach a site or speak to anyone working there.

    Never trespass

Do not step onto someone else's property, go through gates, cross fences or enter active worksites without the owner's permission. Do not enter simply to get a clearer photo.

Keep clear of roads and machinery

Never stand in traffic lanes, stop on a blind hill, follow trucks, block entrances or approach moving equipment. Observe only from a safe, lawful place; never take photos while driving.

    Protect other people

Avoid posting identifiable faces, vehicle plates, home addresses or precise location details. Do not harass, threaten or confront workers or neighbours.

Do not use drones without checking rules

Drone flights have airspace, safety and privacy requirements. Do not fly over active work areas or people to gather evidence without confirming applicable Canadian rules and permissions.

    Keep originals; share redacted copies

Preserve originals privately with dates and context. Before publishing, review GPS/EXIF metadata, visible landmarks and other identifying details. Do not change an original that may be needed as evidence.

    Report facts, not accusations

Say what you personally saw, when and from where it was observed. Clearly distinguish suspicions from verified records. Do not publish rumours or accuse named individuals of crimes.

Safety and legal notice: This community site does not authorize trespass, intrusive surveillance, interference with operations or unsafe evidence gathering. Follow local laws and posted restrictions. If a hazard is immediate, leave the area and call emergency services; do not investigate it yourself.

    Record what you observe

Write dates, approximate locations and what you personally witnessed. Keep original photographs privately and make redacted copies before sharing them publicly.

    1. Observe safely

Note the date, time, general location, activity and weather or road conditions when relevant.

    2. Check the facts

Distinguish first-hand observations from rumours, maps, permit information and official responses.

    3. Protect identity

Check photographs for GPS/EXIF data, recognizable homes, licence plates and faces before sharing.

    Private observation worksheet

This worksheet runs in your browser only. It does not submit information to this website; the contents will disappear when you close or refresh the page unless you copy them.

Prepare a report or a public comment

Use these templates as starting points. Replace placeholders with verifiable details. Sending a report to a government body is separate from contributing to this community website.

Ontario Environmental Registry comments can become part of a public record. Review the Registry's privacy guidance before submitting.

Protect your community — and yourself

    Keep identities private

Do not include your home address or someone else's identifying information in a public post unless necessary and lawful. Anonymous public display is not the same as anonymity to service providers or government agencies.

    Keep the record accurate

Make every claim traceable to a document or dated observation. Clearly label unverified reports, invite corrections and avoid allegations about individuals.

    Grow responsibly

Head Lake and Laxton is the first focus. Future communities can have separate pages, evidence timelines and official sources once submissions and facts have been reviewed.

Private submissions are not active yet. A secure intake system, clear retention policy and image-metadata review are required before we accept resident reports. Do not send sensitive materials through an unverified contact form. Privacy approach · Publication policy
