Safety rules for residents
Never risk your safety or break the law to obtain evidence. You are not expected to investigate a site yourself. For immediate danger call 911.
Stay on lawful ground
- Never enter someone else's property without their permission, including through an open gate or an unfenced boundary. Never cross fences, ignore signs or enter work areas.
- Only observe and photograph from places you may lawfully occupy. A public roadway is not automatically a safe place to stop.
- Do not approach, question, harass, threaten or confront workers, owners or drivers, or interfere with equipment or site access.
Roads and machinery
- Do not park or stop on a blind hill, shoulder with poor visibility, private entrance or other hazardous location.
- Never take photographs while driving, follow commercial trucks, block entrances or approach operating equipment.
- Do not enter unstable excavations or approach steep rock faces, stockpiles or moving trucks.
Photography, drones and privacy
- Comply with applicable Canadian drone, aviation, trespass and privacy laws; no drone flight is authorized or requested by this website.
- Avoid collecting or publishing identifying information about workers, minors, neighbours or contributors.
- Keep originals of your evidence securely; remove GPS/EXIF and identifying details only from copies prepared for public sharing.
- Do not publish private correspondence, copyrighted documents, or sensitive details without appropriate permission and review.
Report carefully
- Record dates, times, approximate locations and direct observations. Separate what you witnessed from what another person said.
- Do not describe an unverified suspicion as an established offence. Give authorities the opportunity to investigate.
- For emergencies, contact emergency services. For non-emergency concerns, use the appropriate municipal or provincial reporting channel.
